Abstract

The 5S work culture (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke) aims to create a safe, organized, and productive work environment. Workers’ 5S behavior is believed to be influenced by predisposing factors, namely age, length of service, and educational level. This study aims to analyze the relationship between these predisposing factors and 5S behavior among workers at PT PLN Nusantara Power’s Brantas Power Plant in Malang. This study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional design involving 46 respondents selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed univariately and bivariately, with the Mann-Whitney U test for age and Fisher’s Exact Test for length of service and educational level. The results showed that the majority of respondents exhibited 5S behavior in the “good” category, with all 5S dimensions scoring above 90%; the “Organize” dimension had the highest score, while the “Maintain” dimension had the lowest. The analysis results indicate that age is not significantly associated with 5S behavior (p > 0.05), whereas length of service (p = 0.046) and educational level (p = 0.032) are significantly associated with 5S behavior (p < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that length of service and educational level are associated with workers’ 5S behavior, whereas age is not. It is hoped that the results of this study can serve as a basis for companies to evaluate, maintain, and continuously improve the implementation of the 5S culture.
