Abstract

Food waste reflects students’ acceptance of the food provided and may be influenced by their level of satisfaction and eating habits. This study aims to analyze the relationship between students’ level of satisfaction, eating habits, and food waste in the Free Nutritious Meal Program at SMP IT MTA Karanganyar. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The research sample consisted of 70 students from grades VII, VIII, and IX, selected using stratified sampling. The level of satisfaction with meals was measured using a food satisfaction questionnaire. Eating habits were assessed using the Adolescent Food Habits Checklist (AFHC) questionnaire, while food waste was measured using the Comstock visual observation method over three days. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses, with Fisher’s exact test applied at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the majority of students were satisfied with the Free Nutritious Meal Program (64.2%) and had good eating habits (58.5%). The majority of students had low food waste (≤20%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between the level of satisfaction and food waste (p<0.05), whereas no significant relationship was found between eating habits and food waste (p>0.05). The conclusion of this study is that satisfaction levels are related to food waste, while eating habits are not related to food waste in the Free Nutritious Meal Program at SMP IT MTA Karanganyar
